Recline & Tilt-in-Space

Recline & tilt to accommodate different comfort and medical needs

Ideal for Regular Seating & Daily Activities

A 90-degree upright position is the standard seating posture in a reclining wheelchair. This position provides optimal support for the spine, promotes good posture, and allows for maximum engagement in daily activities such as eating, reading, socialising, and working.

Comfort While Maintaining an Active Posture

A slight recline offer a comfortable yet functional seating position, reducing pressure on the lower back while allowing the user to stay engaged in daily activities. This position is particularly beneficial for individuals who experience discomfort when sitting fully upright for long periods but still need to remain active and attentive.

Stay Balanced with a Soft, Supportive Tilt

A slight tilt of 10–15° helps prevent the user from slipping forward by subtly shifting their center of gravity backward and directing body weight into the backrest rather than downward along the seat. This position keeps the pelvis securely anchored against the back support, reducing forward migration and minimising shear between the user and the cushion. By maintaining a stable pelvic base and promoting upright alignment, the slight tilt allows the user to sit comfortably and safely without sliding forward, even with reduced trunk control or fatigue over time.

Maximum Stability and Pressure Relief

A full 25° tilt shifts the user’s center of gravity backward, transferring weight to the backrest for maximum pressure relief, comfort, and stability. It helps users with poor trunk control stay safely positioned by using gravity to prevent forward sliding and maintain posture during rest or long sitting periods.

How Tilt and Recline Enhance Each Other

Recline provides relaxation, while tilt ensures stability. By tilting the entire seating system after reclining, the user’s posture is supported and the pelvis remains secure, preventing forward slipping. Together, they deliver safe pressure relief, enhanced comfort, and improved long-term sitting tolerance.
